Not Suitable for Paint Fill
Paint fill technique (as we describe using on acrylic) isn't suitable for this material (because the tape doesn't stick as firmly to the surface, causing paint to 'bleed' out and adhere onto other areas). Paint directly over the surface instead. As with trying any new technique, consider testing on a sample swatch.Recommended Uses
- Can be easily painted or varnished after cutting. We've seen some amazing finished products made with sold wood, like plain laser cut circles painted with flowers.
- Consider how end products will be worn/used. Wood doesn't lend itself well to being wet/dried repeatedly, so products that are commonly removed (e.g. necklaces) can offer longevity for customers (when compared to something like earrings, which some people choose not to remove regularly once in).
- When trying to decide whether to choose wood over veneer, consider how much 'edge' is shown in your design. That is, solid wood will show a nice wood cross section on the sides, veneer will show an MDF core. So if your design has lots of intricate details and internal cut outs, you may opt to enhance those details by using solid wood.

- Engraves well and can hold fine details (engraved areas are typically slightly darkened).
- Comes with a protective tape coating that will need to be peeled off.
- It is difficult to capture colour correctly; allow for slight variation from monitor to reality.
- This is kiln dry wood. Sustainably harvested, by the Wisconsin Amish. Sanded both sides, and ready to use (Alder is also varnished).
